The Lineup

First of all I was super excited to start reading this book because I absolutely love Meghan Quinn’s writing style. She does such a great job of writing comedy and fantastic side characters. And this book didn’t disappoint! It was the same fantastic writing that I loved in the first two books. Technically this is a standalone but there are 2 books that take place before this one that I would read first: The Locker Room and The Dugout. Both of which were great except one detail that if you want to check them out you can read my reviews here: https://theweeklyromance.home.blog/2019/08/23/the-locker-room/ and https://theweeklyromance.home.blog/2019/10/10/the-dugout/. Anyway, was very excited to dive right back into this world. It was super nice because while the second one (The Dugout) took place before the ending of The Locker Room, this one took place after the end of both. So it was so nice getting to see the happy endings for the other two and how things are still going great. Moving on, I was literally reading the book and then was like Dottie, Dottie, why does that ring a bell? And then I realized it was one of Emory’s friends from the first book and was like omg this is great I’m even more excited. So here’s the thing, I ended up liking Jason more because he was literally the sweetest guy ever, like so kind and caring and at times Dottie was difficult at least when reading Jason’s perspective, in her own perspective though everything seemed to make sense and though I didn’t agree with all of her decisions, I understood them. I found that the plot was a bit too obvious though, that he would find out and everything would be “ruined” but I have to say it was super nice to see her reaction being very un-Dottie like and it made me feel more connected to her and it made me like her more as a character. I’m just glad it didn’t take them EIGHT YEARS (still mad at that The Locker Room) to figure it all out. Anyway, I really liked this book but it wasn’t my favorite out of the three so I give it 4 cups of tea! – Hannah

Out of My Leage

I received an ARC of this book to read through NetGalley in exchange for a fair review. Out of My League by Brea Brown is the first book in her The Underdog Series. A number of her books were acquired by Wayzgoose Press and have been re-released with some slight editing and new covers.

Okay so I have a lot of mixed feelings about this book. There were parts that I really enjoyed and then there were parts that I just did not like at all. I’ll start with the things I did like, I liked the writing style for the most part. It was written like a romcom and some lines were really funny and I liked the main character for the most part and Jet was really sweet and I really liked Colin. Not gonna lie for the first like 33% of this book I was convinced that she was going to end up with Colin instead and the whole thing with Jet was just not it for her because she was so wishy washy. Like I really didn’t like that Maura was all over the place with the relationship because it made me feel uncertain and that’s not really what I go for when reading a book. But I will give Brea Brown credit for the fact that she was able to create that feeling in me as a reader. Additionally, I just hated like all of the side characters except for Colin and Gidget. Like her brother was the worst and I was waiting for her to tell him off so much, and the same goes for Rae. I really didn’t like Rae and meanwhile they were supposed to be best friends and Rae was tearing her down every second. I also just felt like the book was generally choppy, it jumped a bit all over the place, like there were a lot of points where I was like when did that happen? Did I miss something? It was nice that they stayed together for the whole book but overall I just felt the book was too long for not much to really happen. So I give it 2.5 cups of tea. – Hannah

You Deserve Each Other

I received a complimentary copy of this book from NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

I really liked this book! It was a really interesting and kind of real topic so I enjoyed the spin on this. I really think it’s amazing and a testament to the author that you can go from hating one character to loving him. The writing in this book was great too that it was really clever and funny but just well written in general. I find it very telling that they don’t feel like they’re engaged and that they keep calling each other boyfriend and girlfriend. I do find it interesting that we only see Naomi’s side of everything, that it’s told completely from her view so we don’t really get to see what Nicholas is thinking for the duration of the book. Also I feel like the author uses the settings seriously to her advantage because she makes you feel how that in the original house that it’s cramped and unhappy and then the dynamic immediately shifts in the new house that they feel calm and spread out. Also, there are some just generally really cute scenes with the two of them, especially in the end with his mother, that scene was literally everything. Overall, I really liked this book but I had an issue with the fact that there was no epilogue and I felt like it took a bit to get into the story so all in all 4 cups of tea! – Hannah

Weight Expectations

This book was really good! Usually I need an epilogue to live and this didn’t even feel like I needed an epilogue, the plot was that fulfilling. Although there were some plot holes, I found that the story line was great and I read the entire book in one sitting! I couldn’t put it down. I loved how the author provided a reason as to why Rian all of the sudden had to go on a diet! It made the novel less about her losing weight and more about her and Carlos’s romance. Overall super cute and fun read!

To Love Her or Lose Her

We received complimentary copies of this book from NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely our own.

Okay I have iffy feelings about this book. For me it was a lot of hit or miss. I really liked Rosie and I came to like Dominic too but it was a bit of a tough book to get through at least for me. It was really different than most books that I read which I kind of enjoyed because they start out being married versus that being the ending even though it was a bit of the ending too. I just had a really tough time getting into this one, because of the fact that I found Dominic to be kind of challenging for most of it and I was just screaming, “TELL HER” like the entire time. The Just Us League though was absolutely incredible like even better than the first book, Tessa Bailey does such a great job in establishing a community to support the main characters. I think Bethany and Georgie were my favorite parts of this book, especially Bethany. Bethany was just so funny and I loved the girls relationship that part was so good. I’m also really looking forward to Bethany and Wes’s story, that one sounds like it’s going to be good, I love a hate to love story. Anyway, overall it was okay just not my favorite so 3 cups of tea. – Hannah

I really liked this book!
I felt like I knew what decisions the characters would make, and how they would react to other people’s choices! I felt like it picked up where the other book left off. I liked how it showed how relationships change. The book could have also been a stand alone, but I liked reading it after Travis and Georgies book. I loved the continuation of Travis and Georgie’s story in this novel!! I loved their book and the only thing I didn’t like was that there was no epilogue, and they kind of got an epilogue in this book! I love when authors continue the story of other characters in the background, but they don’t mess up the previous characters happily ever after they just give you a glimpse into the future! Overall, this book showed a real relationship, and how your own baggage can impact your view of the relationship. Go Dominic and Rosie!

Open House

The character development in this novel was fantastic especially in how many pages the book was, I thought that both of the main characters’ inner conflicts were well developed as well. As soon as I started reading the book I became enthralled and the plot was a very interesting idea and could have been wonderful had it been lived to its fullest potential. As I read on I started to become confused, the rate at which the main characters became friends and then lovers was alarming and highly inaccurate for a novel that seemed as if it was supposed to be a slow burn. I some what enjoyed the book, but overall it left me feeling like the story was written quickly and not entirely finished. I will be honest, what drew me to this book was the proclamation that it would have a happily ever after, and I felt as though there was a happy ending, but it wasn’t a happily ever after. After I finished the novel, I sat there and stared at the author’s thank you note and wondered where the epilogue was.

This book was given to me by Netgalley! Thank you Netgalley!

Would Like to Meet

I received a complimentary copy of this book from NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

I really liked this book!!! I literally picked it up at like 10:30 pm and I didn’t put it down until I was done at like 3:45 am so I obviously really enjoyed it. Rachel Winters did a fantastic job at keeping you going because you want to find out if any of the meet cutes are successful but mostly you want to find out if she’s going to see what’s right in front of her face. I did have a few issues though which I’ll get into later but overall it was a really good book. First, I’ll start with the stuff I really liked. I am a huuuuuge fan of Rom Coms like they’re literally my favorite and the fact that the book starts with a Notting Hill reference made it for me because that’s literally my favorite movie of all time. I also must say that the JEMS group chat was incredible, I loved seeing they’re part of the book and seeing them all be there for each other. They were such developed secondary characters and Ben and Anette were the absolute best. Now I’ll move on to the slight issues that I had with the book, first being that I found it to be a little predictable and I hated the stuff with NOB (Ezra) in the end like he absolutely sucked and I hate that she even slightly fell for it. I also personally am not a fan of the love triangle type story so I didn’t really like that side of it. Overall, it was really good! I give it four cups of tea! – Hannah

The Deal

First of all I have to apologize for being gone for so long but I’m back and better than ever. I must say this is one of my favorite books, I love this one so much. It’s like a decent slow burn which is the best. Garrett is the sweetest guy ever and it’s so nice to see his change in mentality from being like I could never be in a relationship to being like how could I never not be in a relationship with Hannah. I really like how they had a lot of separate baggage that they worked out together it always adds something nice to a story with that. Also, hockey is integrated so well into this book, it’s not all about the sport but there’s the perfect amount in there. The banter is just so good in this book, like they’re back and forth is everything and I think that’s why I like the characters so much. Overall, it’s just such a heartwarming book even though the conflict really stinks, like I hate that the father steps in between but I’m just glad that Garrett never really believed it. Finally, I just have to add that the side characters are also so great, Elle Kennedy does such a nice job of adding them in and it being so natural. So 5 cups of tea! – Hannah

One Week ‘Til Christmas

Good story although predictable, I enjoyed the vocabulary and diction although certain points too much and the paragraph felt crowded. The characters were well developed despite the short book. I also appreciated the accurate scenario of being taken advantage of in a workplace, the boss overusing and asking for too much from one employee. I don’t really enjoy when there is a lack of trust and the characters overcome that too quickly it feels disingenuous, unrealistically forgiving. Overall, if you’re looking for a predictable Christmas story with a tad bit of a twist, you’ve come to the right place!

If You Tame Me

I really appreciated how I had a deep understanding of the characters and he choices they would make. I really liked how I could see everything that the author described. I enjoyed how the author wrote in a way that the characters’ thought process. The book was a little politically charged, but as I agreed with the politics it didn’t bother me much. It is very anti trump, or shall I say the man in the white house. I thought it was a fun new idea to have the characters be a little bit older. Not every couple has to be right out of college. Overall, the book was cute and not all romances should have a 20 year old main character, let a 55 year old have her day in the sun!
