Focused

What a great book! I really enjoyed this one and it was an excellent follow to the old series to start this follow up series (The Bombshell Effect, The Ex Effect and The Marriage Effect.) I give Karla Sorensen huge credit in knowing what her strongest story was and pulling it out of the last book. It was such an effortless transition even though it’s ten years later. I was a little upset when we find out pretty early on that Ava has moved to a different coast and is no longer working with them but that was essentially unimportant and I could see how she was trying to give some breathing room for new characters and also to slowly take us out of the football world. I have to say that I’m very excited for the rest of the series it really reminds me of the San Francisco Thunder books by Victoria Denault because it’s really about the siblings and them coming to grips with their family life. So if you like this book I would definitely go check out that series. Also just what a cute story line, Noah and Molly were just so cute and I loved the whole Jim and Pam from the office vibe in that the camera caught them falling in love with each other just so cute and effortless. It was just overall so good and I can’t wait for the rest of the books in the series especially seeing that glimpse into Claire’s story. Though I thought we would get to see Isabel’s but I guess that will have to wait. Overall, I loved this book 5 cups of tea! – Hannah

The Marriage Effect

Okay this book was soooooo good! This was the third in the series, the first two being The Bombshell Effect and The Ex Effect. I think the reason I liked this one so much is that I just really enjoyed the plot. I love the marriage storyline and that he had his four younger sisters. The sisters were honestly the best characters too and just reading about their reactions to Paige was everything. I think another reason why I just liked it so much was that I really liked Paige and Logan as characters. They have been around since the first book so we as readers have really seen them evolve and we’ve really seen their characterization grow so by the time I got to this book I felt like I already knew them. Also Paige’s chapters were my absolute favorite because Karla Sorensen did such a great job at making Paige’s chapters sound like her. Every time I read one I was like the humor is amazing and it’s so her but she was so easily able to switch between Logan and Paige and give them such different voices. Just overall really great. I also really liked the ending and how the author set up the next series of books which I absolutely cannot wait to read because as I already said I really liked the sisters so much so I can’t wait for their stories. The only thing I didn’t like was that we didn’t get to see Paige tell Logan what she had done for the girls to protect them from Nick. But other than that, I really liked this book and I give it 5 cups of tea! – Hannah

The Ex Effect

Okay this book was really cute but I did have a couple issues with it. I’ll start with what I liked before moving on to the things I didn’t like as much. Okay first Matthew was maybe the sweetest character I have ever read about, like ridiculous and kind of unreal. I also liked the plot because it was really different than most of the things I read and it was a really solid follow up to the first book in this series, The Bombshell Effect. Also I generally just thought Matthew and Ava were really cute together and Ava was a great character in the first book so I was excited to read her story though not gonna lie I was hoping it would be Page’s but hers is next so I’m excited. Also I was kind of on edge for most of the book because they were hiding their relationship from her family which is a kind of medium thing for me. I liked it in the sense that I kept reading to see what would happen but I was also kind of scared for the majority of the book. On to the things I didn’t like that we went back in time from the last epilogue to where the book took place it was kind of weird to get my storyline right. Also, I just generally didn’t like the plot of Logan being into her as well it was just really weird and didn’t do it for me so it made me slightly uncomfy. Lastly, I’m so upset that we don’t get to see how Ashley deals with Matthew, like we get a slight glimpse but we don’t get a real conclusion to that part of the story. Overall, I liked this book and I give it 4 cups of tea. – Hannah

The Bombshell Effect

This book was really cute! At first I thought it was going to be similar to Million Baller Baby but I think besides her inheriting the team that was the only real similarity. So I guess I jumped the gun a little. Anyway, this book was really cute and sweet. I really liked the characters of Allie and Luke. They were really developed especially Allie, I thought her character was super interesting and I liked how Paige was brought into the book. I also really liked Faith, what a kid. The way she was playing matchmaker was great and it was so cute and innocent. I will say though that I was a little confused as to how easily they came up with the terms of their agreement, like usually there’s a lot more hesitation before just jumping into something like that but oh well. Also at first I found Allie to be a little to vain but after a bit that thankfully started to fade out. I think my biggest issue though was the fact that it kept being hinted at the problems with her father but there was no real moment between Allie and Luke where they talked about it. Like he had so many misconceptions about her and they seemed to fizzle out with little hints about her life with her dad but I would have loved to have them have a real moment where she lays everything out on the table but oh well. I just have to say though that I love how Karla Sorensen wrote Faith and Allie’s interactions I really liked that she treated her how she would have liked to have been treated. It was a really nice touch. Overall, I give it 4 cups of tea! – Hannah

A Favor for a Favor

I really liked this book! For reference this book is a sequel, so read A Lie for a Lie first because this book will make a lot more sense if you do. I really like that this is about Stevie who is Rook’s sister who was the main character in the first one. Though I have some negative feelings about it as well. I’ll start with the things that I liked about this book. I really liked Stevie and Bishop I thought they were really cute together and they had a fun meeting in the beginning of the book I really liked being thrown into their story. Though I felt like the beginning was moving a little slowly at first before it picked up. I generally just really liked how sweet Bishop was, like he was so mean in the beginning but he really became my favorite character. The slow burn in this movie was great as well, really well done and I enjoyed seeing their friendship grow before they really started their relationship. On to the things I didn’t like so much. I kind of didn’t like how Rook was thrown under the bus for the purpose of this book, I know that he had a troubled past but I kind of hate that he was the villain while it was also fitting. So I have mixed emotions about it but I just generally didn’t like him throughout the book because he wasn’t trying to understand where Bishop was coming from and after reading his story I wish he had been more of a positive character. So overall, I really liked this book but I got really frustrated with Rook which is what brought it down from 5 to 4 cups of tea. – Hannah

I don’t agree with some of Hannah’s opinions, I actually think that you can 100% read this book without reading the first book in the series, A Lie for a Lie, I did a review for that on here so I’ll link the review, these words are a link, so check it out!, I think you might get more out of this novel without having read the other in the series, and you can see why in Hannah’s things she didn’t like. Enough with the bologna, Here’s my review.

4 cups of tea! I loved the all of characters even the supporting characters like Nolan, and Stevie’s PT friends. I loved how they helped to add to the plot and Nolan’s character development was fantastic, he became so considerate and understanding, which is a little unrealistic, but come on. The author was very consistent with the internal conflicts, there wasn’t a moment in the novel that I felt like Stevie or Bishop did something out of character. The internal conflicts were also realistic and understandable, which made the book much easier to see in real life as opposed to some crazy stalker, which is common in romance novels. And I thought the ending was super cute. The only thing I can say I didn’t like was the continuous change of Stevie’s hair color. I also didn’t picture the character with dyed hair, maybe it’s me, but the author never mentioned her dying her hair and then all of the sudden it was blue and not purple, it was really confusing to me. All in all, great read! Please ignore Hannah’s Rook comments, he was trying to be a good brother, but the road to hell is paved with good intentions.

Honey-Don’t List

I know Hannah already posted for this novel, but I have a different opinion, and I would like to share. This novel was generously given to me early by Netgalley in exchange for an honest ! Thank you, Netgalley!

I liked this novel! I enjoyed the writing style, although there seem to be an abundance of words for everything. And the author is did a good job of making sure the reader knows who the antagonists are, and showing their denial and desperation. The beginning was a little slow, and I felt like this book was more Russel and Melly’s story than James and Carey’s. I also feel as though the author antagonized then too much, no character is truly evil and the author almost makes Nelly this way. The ending was okay, I would have preferred an epilogue as always, but I also felt as though it was rushed. Finally, I wish the title had tied it a little together more, there really could have been a moment where the author mentioned that James was on Carey’s honey- don’t list, but it just didn’t happen.

Kulti

I LOVE this book, I read it and now I reread it all the time. I can’t get enough of Sal and Rey’s relationship. This novel does a wonderful job of showing the development of a relationship, and the development of characters. The main character’s internal conflicts are evident and understood even though the novel is told only from Sal’s point of view. The reader is able to predict what the characters are going to do because of the amazing character development. I love Kulti and I love Sal and I love them together, I loved the plot and the character development and the book idea. I love almost every book that Mariana Zapata writes, but this one is one of my favorites! Overall, I recommend this book to everyone who has a heart and can read!

Checked

I was super excited to read this book because I’d heard good things and I also had never read a romance novel written by a guy so I was curious. Also reading the description I was very excited for the story but in so many ways it just really fell short. The humor was pretty good which was the shining light and the beginning was good and intriguing. However, it started to slowly go downhill from there. First of all, the dialogue began to get extremely stilted and stiff, so the one thing going for it was now kind of weird and off. All of the actions and thoughts were actually very robotic and just didn’t feel like how a real person would feel. Also I thought that when she turned out to be pregnant it would be like at the end of college for both of them and it would be mostly outside of the college setting. Yet she was pregnant like 400 miles away from him. It was so weird that it was long distance but with a pregnancy just like not great. Also, I really didn’t like the style of the story telling, it felt like there would be a scene and then a jump in time and another scene. There was no real explanation for the passage in time, which is honestly just bazaar and kind of hard to read. All in all, it just wasn’t for me because of everything I mentioned before but oh well, I give it 3 cups of lukewarm tea. – Hannah

Dark Russian Angely

Okay so honestly I’m slightly disappointed by this book. It had so much promise and I was so excited to read it but something was just kind of off for me. I think there was just something missing and I can’t quite put my finger on it. I was really excited because I really like Odette Stone, especially her hockey books which I recently reread and loved again. I was also excited because I really liked Andrusha from The Penalty Box and I found him to be pretty mysterious and interesting. This book also started off really strong, it had everything going for it. I also did really like the plot of the book, I thought it was interesting and a bit different but honestly very similar to Lev by Belle Aurora. I just felt like a lot of this book was kind of rushed and then pieces of it were really slowed down. There’s this one specific part where it’s something that happened to Olivia but we only see it through Andrusha’s eyes and it’s honestly very weird to not be in the right head for that. Generally, I just felt like there was too much thinking and over contemplating in the book especially on Andrusha’s part and I prefer a book with a bit more dialogue. I really also think that this book could have been shortened a lot, like there was a lot of extra stuff that wasn’t that interesting that could have been cut. Overall, I did like the premise of the book and I did like the characters but I had issues with the speed and length so I give it 3 cups of tea. – Hannah

Parker

Okay so I’m iffy about this book, there are some parts that I really liked but there are other that I didn’t. So I’ll start with what I did like. I liked that we as readers were kind of thrown into a story, I really like that I find that it’s the best way to begin a book. It’s so much easier than setting the stage and then slowly introducing the characters to each other. I’d rather have whiplash than fall asleep from the beginning. I also really liked Alex Parker once things started to progress and I really liked Charlotte and I thought they were cute together. On to the things I didn’t really like, I thought it was weird how one second she’d go from completely hating him to being in his arms. I just felt like something was missing and it might just be me but I didn’t really feel the connection. I felt like there was a spark missing in this book and coming from reading Samantha Whiskey which is all about the spark, I just couldn’t get into it. In general I just found it to be too wishy washy but the story itself was cute. Overall, I give the book 3.5 cups of tea. – Hannah
